Who We Are

Big Hollow Middle School's Fine Arts Boosters is a group of parents, community volunteers and teachers who work together to support our school's Fine Arts Programs by raising money through a series of fundraisers throughout the year. This fundraising allows us to provide supplies for our arts clubs, materials for theatre & Acting Club, and music and instruments for our choir & band programs.

We meet once a month during the school year and welcome everyone to attend! Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in the BHMS Library.

We are proud to support all of Big Hollow Middle School's Fine Arts Programs: Art, Band, Choir, Speech & Acting Club, and Theatre.

Fine Arts education nurtures talent and improves and encourages creativity, confidence, and perseverance and develops crucial skills such as teamwork, responsibility, decision-making, leadership and more.

Choir TeacherHow many years have you been teaching?
16

What inspired you to become a Choir director?
My love for choral music along with my numerous performing experiences inspired me to pursue a career in teaching choir. I wanted to share that passion with my students and provide them with similar, memorable experiences.

What kind of music do you listen to on a daily basis?
Alternative

What is your favorite instrument to play?
My voice. :)

What is your favorite song?
Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles

What would students be surprised to find out about you?
That I didn't want to join choir in high school and that I definitely didn't want to become a teacher.

How do you spend your summer breaks?
With my 2 boys on adventures - pools, museums, parks, hanging out with friends, road trips

In which other teacher's class would you like to enroll, even for a day? Why?
Art. My art education was extremely limited growing up and Mrs. Paulson is awesome!

What are your "trapped on a desert island" books or movies?
Book - Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" / Movie - any of the Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings movies

What's your favorite part of being a Choir director?
My absolute favorite part is connecting with the students each and every day. Choir students bring a wonderful energy into my classroom that truly brings me joy. The concerts are a blast and the students work really hard to perform their pieces, but it's really the day to day lessons and activities that are the best.

How Many years have you been teaching?  16

What inspired you to become a Band director? I always loved being and band and I have so many great memories from different performances and trips. I also had so many amazing band directors that helped me grow not only as a musician, but as a person.

What kind of music do you listen to on a daily basis? Depends on my mood, but I tend to play a lot of music from the 90s or Taylor Swift (when my kids aren’t playing their music on repeat).

What is your favorite instrument to play? Clarinet

What is your favorite song?
My favorite song is currently Long Live by Taylor Swift

What would students be surprised to find out about you? Students are always surprised when they find out that I played soccer through high school. It is possible to be into sports AND music!

How do you spend your summer breaks?
I spend my summer breaks spending time with my family, reading, and going for long runs.

In which other teacher's class would you like to enroll, even for a day? Why? I would probably enroll in Ms. Dee’s choir for a day. I loved teaching choir in the past, and singing is such a great stress reliever.

What are your "trapped on a desert island" books or movies?
The Harry Potter series and the Hunger Games series for both books and Movies.

What's your favorite part of being a band director? My favorite part about being a band director is being able to watch my students grow both as musicians and as people.

I attended Big Hollow as a student, but this is my first year as a Para! I am very excited to provide support for students at the school I attended myself!

After helping support the plays and musicals for many years, I am excited to take on the role of Speech and Acting Director to help students learn about the stage and push themselves out of their comfort zone!

What kind of music do you listen to on a daily basis?
I am a big fan of country, folk, rock, and acoustic music that you would hear in a coffee shop! I have been to many concerts and love listening to music live!

I think that students would be surprised to hear that I play the guitar and sing! I have also recorded cover songs in a recording studio that Dolly Parton was at the day prior! She even left her glasses on the table!

I like to spend my summer breaks relaxing or traveling to different places! My family and I often take trips to the mountains to relax and reset before the fall comes! I love Tennessee, Montana, and Wyoming!

What are your "trapped-on-a desert-island" books or movies
?

If I was trapped on a desert island, I would bring so many different books and movies with me! I am a big fan of mystery and romance books, but my favorite movies of all time are The Phantom of the Opera and The Lorax!

What's your favorite part of being a theatre director and acting coach?
I love teaching students new ways to improve their performance on the stage! Great acting is crucial to the fine arts and I am excited to see students come out of their shell and develop their skills!

Kori Paulson

How many years have you been teaching?

I've been teaching for 19 years and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for art with students.

What inspired you to become an Art Teacher?

I've always been passionate about art and its power to express emotions and ideas. What truly inspired me to become an Art Teacher was the desire to help others discover their own creative potential. Art has a unique way of connecting people, and I wanted to be part of that journey for my students.

What is your favorite type of art?

I have a deep appreciation for ceramic art. I love clay properties and its versatility. Clay as an art medium is very forgiving when you create with it. That said, I also enjoy exploring different mediums such as print-making materials and paint.

What are your hobbies?

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, watching my boys play soccer, and spending time with family.
